POWELL EARNS BERTH IN USA T&F JUNIOR NATIONALS

Furman freshman Grady Powell (Erie, Penn.) has earned a berth in the 2000 Junior National Qualifier slated for June 23-24 at the University of North Texas in Denton.

Powell qualified for the Junior National Meet with a time of 3:56.13 in the 1500m run Saturday at the Emory Classic. Powell's showing topped the junior national automatic time by two seconds and earned him a fourth-place finish and five points towards Furman's sixth-place total of 73.50.

The top two finishers in each track and field event at the Junior National Qualifier will earn a spot on the 2000 USA Track and Field Junior National Team, which will go on to compete in at least one international meet.
