Lady Paladins FInish Second, Men Fourth at Southern Conference Cross Country Championships

Davidson, North Carolina -- The Furman women's cross country team placed three runners in the top 10, but fell one point short of eventual champion Davidson at the 2003 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday in Davidson, N.C. The Furman men's team claimed fourth place.

Senior Bev Roberts paced the Lady Paladins with a time of 19:10.24 to finish fourth, while Whitney Sharp and Molly Mungovan finished seventh and tenth respectively.

Appalachian State's Katie Sujkowski won the women's 5K event with a time of 18:39.81. Kelly Fillnow of Davidson and Heidi Sloop of UNC Greensboro rounded out the top three.

In the men's 8K race, Chattanooga's Steven Kocsis claimed first place in 25:17.51 to lead the Mocs to the team title. Appalachian State, East Tennessee State and Furman rounded out the top four.

Senior Kevin Crosby, who grabbed second place at last year's SoCon Championships, finished fourth in 25:43.53 to pace the Paladins. Sophomore Tyler Johnson recorded a 26:08.44 to take sixth in the men's race.
