Furman Men's Track & Field Fourth After First Day of SoCon Championships

Greenville, South Carolina -- The Furman men's track and field team rode second place finishes from Kevin Crosby and David Moseley to move into second place after day one of the Southern Conference Track and Field Championships in Boone, N.C.

Crosby, a senior from Matthews, N.C., finished the men's 10,000m run in 32:10.73 to garner second place honors behind Chattanooga's Steven Kocsis and earn Furman eight points. Moseley follwed with a runner-up showing in the javelin throw to up Furman's team total to 16 points. The freshman recorded a throw of 51.63m.

Furman's Tyler Johnson took first in the men's 800m heat three with a time of 1:53.75, while teammate Jamie Bach claimed second in heat one with an identical time to qualify for Sunday's finals. Paladin football standout Brian Stone outdistanced the field in the 110m hurdles preliminaries heat one with a time of 14.97.

On the women's side, sophomore Katie Poole claimed a third place finish in the 3,000m Steeplechase to give the Lady Paladins six points and an eighth place standing after day one.

The second and final day of the 2004 SoCon Championships gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Appalachian State University.
