FURMAN WOMEN THIRD, MEN SEVENTH, AT EMORY CLASSIC

BRALEY WINS TWO EVENTS

ATLANTA, Georgia -- The Furman women's track team placed third with 68.50 points and the men seventh with 40 at the Emory Track and Field Classic March 30-31.

The Lady Paladins were led by senior distance runner Jill Braley, who won the 5000m and 10,000m events with times of 17:39.63 and 35:25.41, respectively. Braley's showing in the 10,000m run set a new school record, breaking by seven seconds the previous mark of 35:32.94, set in 1998 by Lynn Kepper-Hudson.

In addition to Braley's top showing, freshman Ali Myers won the pole vault with a mark of 2.88 meters, and Lory Gray took third in the 5000m (18:26.02) and the 3000m (10:39.61) runs, while Monica Hill took third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.61.

On the men's side, the Paladins were led by Kevin Crosby, who won the 10,000m run with a showing of 32:24.52 and Jon-Paul Bowles, who won the 400m hurdles in 54.04. Yuri Van Der Heijden also scored for the Paladins with a third place time of 4:01.81 in the 1500m run and Wyatt Messinger placed third in the javelin with a toss of 48.80 meters.

The Furman track teams will compete at the Duke Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 6-7, beforehosting the Furman Invitationalon Saturday, April 14.
