CULLOWHEE, NC -- The Furman Lady Paladins came out strong in Southern Conference women's tennis action and completed the 7-0 sweep of Western Carolina at the Reid Gym Courts Wednesday afternoon. The Catamounts fall to 5-8 overall and are 0-5 in the SoCon, while Furman improves to 8-7, 3-0. With the victory the Lady Paladins extended their regular season conference win streak to forty-four straight matches.
Furman opened the afternoon with a three match sweep in doubles action to take a quick 1-0 lead. The Lady Paladins never looked back sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets. Mary Neill Hagood eased by Rocio Perez 6-2,6-2 in the No.1 slot while at No.2 Shannon Moore downed Kristin Munn 6-4, 6-2. In flight three action Jacqueline Eckert defeated Erin Johnson 6-2, 6-2 and Marti Morris beat Kristin Cotton 6-4,6-3 at No.4. In the last two matches of the day Bonnie Baird downed Katie VanEwyk 6-4, 6-1 and Lauren Welch eased by April Yount 6-2, 6-0.
The Lady Paladins return home this weekend to take on College of Charleston on Saturday at 11and Wofford on Sunday at 1.
