LADY PALADINS ADVANCE TO FINALS OF SOUTHERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

CHARLESTON, South Carolina -- The Furman women's tennis team advanced to the finals of the Southern Conference Tournament Saturday with a 4-0 win over UT-Chattanooga. With the win the Lady Paladins improved to 17-7 on the year, with the Mocs finishing the season at 11-12.

The Lady Paladins won the doubles point when Jacqueline Eckert and Caroline Bentley eased by Cynthia Oulevay and Kristie Wilson 8-1 in the No.1 spot and in flight three Lisa Bornt-Davis and Shannon Moore downed Beth Flanagan and Bethany Everett 8-5. In the third match Chattanooga's Saskia van Velze and Charlotte Goude defeated Marti Morris and Mary Neill Hagood 8-2. The Lady Paladins then won the first three singles matches in straight sets to pick up the 4-0 win. Furman got wins from Jacqueline Eckert, Shannon Moore, and Caroline Bentley, who clinched the match. The Lady Paladins take on the winner of the Davidson/College of Charleston match tomorrow at 2:00 at the Earle Tennis Center.

In men's tennis action, third-seeded College of Charleston topped second-seeded Furman 4-1. The Paladins got on the board first taking the first two doubles matches. Greg Maarschalk and Ben Pauluhn downed Liran Kling and Bastian Moldhenke 8-4 in the No. 3 slot while Allen Simmons and Brian Crook took the No.2 match with a 9-7 win over Or Dekel and Philipp Koller. College of Charleston then won the next four sinlges matches to secure the 4-1 victory. The Cougars improve to 16-7 with the Paladins dropping to 14-12.
