LADY PALADINS BEAT PHOENIX TO REMAIN PERFECT IN LEAGUE


ELON, N.C. - Furman swept all nine matches from Elon to post a 7-0 Southern Conference women's tennis victory Saturday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, remaining unbeaten in league play.

In doubles, the duos of Caroline Bentley and Jacqueline Eckert (8-3 over Evin Prelec and Jennifer Fulmer at No. 1), Marti Morris and Mary Neill Hagood (8-4 over Kelly Fleck and Alli Benton at No. 2) and Shannon Moore and Bonnie Baird (8-3 over Melissa Holland and Elizabeth Kristofak at No. 3) all found success.

In singles, Furman (11-7 overall, 6-0 SoCon) received wins from Hagood (6-1, 6-0 over Prelec at No. 1), Moore (6-3, 6-3 over Fleck at No. 2), Eckert (6-1, 6-3 over Elizabeth Kernodle at No. 3), Bentley (6-1, 6-1 over Fulmer at No. 4), Morris (6-0, 6-0 over Kristofak at No. 5) and Baird (6-0, 6-2 over Holland at No. 6). The Lady Paladins visit Southern Conference opponent UNC Greensboro at 11 a.m. Sunday. The Phoenix (2-8, 1-6) will also be back at it Sunday, hosting league foe Western Carolina at 1 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
