VANDERBILT ADVANCES TO FOUR FLIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS, USC IN THREE
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Commodores of Vanderbilt and Lady Gamecocks of South Carolina displayed Saturday why they are ranked 13th and 46th respectively. Vanderbilt advanced to four flight championships, to be played on Sunday, with both spots in the top draw occupied by Commodores. South Carolina was right behind, advancing to three flight championships, including two players in the flight six finals.
Vanderbilt already secured a championship when Audra Falk and Annie Menees defeated Julie Coin and Maria Brito of Clemson 8-3 in the flight one doubles championship. South Carolina’s duo of Fallon Koon and Grace Blakely captured the flight three doubles championship, knocking of Furman’s Shannon Moore-Lisa Bornt-Davis tandem 8-5. The flight two championship went to Clemson with Karen Rombouts and Richele LeSaldo deafeating Middle Tennessee State’s Carien Venter and Laura McNamara 8-4.
The Furman Fall Classic ends Sunday at the Mickel Tennis Center with the singles championships. Play begins at 9 am.
