CHATTANOOGA, TN -- The Furman women's tennis team returned to conference play Sunday when they took on the Lady Mocs of Chattanooga. Furman barely came out with the win by a score of 4-3. WIth the win the Lady Paladins improve to 7-7 (2-0 SoCon) while the Lady Mocs fell to 5-9 (3-3 SoCon).
The Lady Paladins came out strong, sweeping all three doubles matches to capture the quick 1-0 lead. In No.1 singles Furman's Mary Neill Hagood battled back to beat Charlotte Goude 1-6,6-1,6-0 while Lady Paladin Caroline Bentley eased by Saskia van Velze 6-0, 6-1 in flight four. Chattanooga evened the score to 3-3 winning matches at No. 3, 5 and 6. In the last match of the day Furman's Shannon Moore sealed the victory in a third set tie breaker over Cynthia Oulevay 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(3).
The Lady Paladins return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Cullowhee, NC to take on Western Carolina. Match begins at 3:00.
