LADY PALADINS SWEEP MOUNTAINEERS ON SENIOR DAY


GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furmanıs Lady Paladin tennis team improved to 14-7 overall and 9-0 in the Southern Conference on Thursday, with a 7-0 senior day sweep of the Mountaineers of Appalachian State.

Furmanıs Shannon Moore and Lisa Bornt-Davis teamed up for an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles over Salem Kirven and Victoria Moody, while Caroline Bentley and Jacqueline Eckert downed Becky Gordon and Anja Gugger 8-3 in the No. 1 slot. At No. 2, Marti Morris and Mary Neill Hagood completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 decision over Lyndsey Free and Tammy Beaulieu.

In singles action Furman took straight set victories in all six positions to complete the sweep. Morris was first off the court for the Lady Paladins after a 6-0, 6-0 win over Free at No. 5, while the closest match of the day was at No.4, where Furmanıs Bentley downed ASUıs Moody 6-2, 7-6, wth a score of 8-3 in the tiebreaker.

Thursdayıs victory concluded the Lady Paladinsı home slate for 2004. Furman will face Davidson on April 17 in a 1 p.m. contest. With the loss, the Mountaineers fell to 7-11 overall and 1-7 in the Southern Conference.
