FURMAN WOMEN'S TENNIS BLANKS SYRACUSE, 7-0

BLACKSBURG, Va. ­ The Furman Lady Paladins improved to 2-2 on the season with a 7-0 shutout victory over Syracuse on Saturday. The Orangewomen, who dropped to 0-4 with the loss, played with only five student-athletes, giving Furman injury default victories at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

Jacqueline Eckert and Caroline Bentley clinched the doubles point with a victory against Trine Lise Juliussen and Wei-Ming Leong 8-5 in the No. 1 doubles slot. In No. 2 doubles action Furman's Shannon Moore and Lisa Bornt-Davis won a close match against Katie Bramante and Ashley Lipton, 8-6.

The Lady Paladins went on to win all five singles matches giving them their second shutout on the season. In flight one Mary Neill Hagood downed Trine Lise Juliussen 6-3,6-0, while Shannon Moore defeated Ashley Lipton 6-1,6-4 in flight two. Jacqueline Eckert beat Katie Bramante in a tie-breaker 2-6,7-6(2) at No. 3 and Bonnie Baird took out Wei-Ming Leong 6-1,6-4 in the No. 4 slot. In the last match of the day, Caroline Bentley rolled by Kendyl Severino winning 6-0,6-0.

Furman's next match is Sunday, when they take on No. 67 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. Action begins at 11:00 a.m.
