VANDERBILT, SOUTH CAROLINA CAPTURE TWO SINGLES TITLES EACH
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The 13th ranked Commodores of Vanderbilt and 46th
ranked Gamecocks of South Carolina each captured two singles titles Sunday.
Audra Falk of Vanderbilt defeated fellow Commodore Kelly Schmandt 6-3, 6-1
to win the flight one singles title. In the flight three finals, Vanderbilt’s
Annie Menees secured the Commodore’s second singles title, beating South
Carolina’s Miranda Gutierrez 6-2, 6-1.
For South Carolina, Fallon Koon knocked off Iowa’s Hilary Tyler 7-5(6),
6-3 for the flight five championship, and in the flight six finals, Justine
Walsh recorded a win over teamate Magda Wojdylo 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 for South Carolina’s
second singles championship.
The flight four championship was won by Sara Anundsen of North Carolina, who
defeated Amanda fish of Vanderbilt 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
The Lady Paladins faired well on Sunday winning three of six matches. In flight one action, Furman’s Mary Neill Hagood ousted Megan Marton of Penn State 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Paladin teamates Marti Morris and Lauren Welch met in flight six, with Welch coming out on top 6-4, 6-2. In the last match of the day Bonnie Baird of Furman battled hard to defeat Middle Tennessee State’s Laura McNamara 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3).
