FURMAN LADY PALADIN TENNIS SILENCES UNC GREENSBORO, 7-0

GREENVILLE, S.C.-- The 74th-ranked Furman women's tennis team won its 46th consecutive match against a conference opponent when the Lady Paladins shut out the UNC Greensboro Spartans 7-0 on Sunday at Mickel Tennis Center. With the win, Furman moves to 6-8 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while UNC Greensboro drops to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in league competition.

The Lady Paladins started by sweeping the Spartans in doubles action to take the doubles point. At No. 1, Mary Kovarik and Natalie The defeated Lindsey Peel and Kate LaCoste 8-1, while Caroline Bentley and Shannon Moore held off Carlin Kannan and Amanda Eutzler 8-6 at No. 2. Furman's Krista Thomson and Mary Neill Hagood completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory against Sonnia Orellana and Lourdes Moran at flight three.

Furman then won each of its six singles matches in straight sets to clinch the victory. At No. 1, Kovarik earned a 6-2, 6-2 triumph against Kannan, while Hagood defeated Peel at flight two, 6-2, 6-2. After Furman's The won her No. 3 singles match against Orellana, 6-1, 6-3, Shannon Moore outdueled LaCoste at flight four, 6-1, 6-2. Lady Paladin Shellie Cochran then silenced Eutzler at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0, and Bentley followed with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Moran at flight six.

Furman will next face the Wofford Terriers in Spartanburg at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
