DAVIDSON UPSETS TOP-SEEDED FURMAN 4-1 IN SOUTHERN CONFERENCE WOMEN'S TENNIS TOURNAMENT SEMIFINAL

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The fifth-seeded Davidson Wildcats topped first-seeded Furman 4-1 in the semifinals of the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Championships at The Citadel's Donald C. Furman earned the doubles point with victories at the Nos. 2 and 3 slots to start the match. Furman's No. 3 tandem of Krista Thomson and Mary Neill Hagood earned the first victory when they topped Katherine Hatch and Sarah Borkowski, 8-4. The Lady Paladins' Caroline Bentley and Shannon Moore then picked up an 8-5 win over Davidson’s Meggie Patterson and Lindsey Powel at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point.

Davidson then won four straight singles matches to secure the victory. At No. 1, Davidson's Kelly Fillnow defeated Mary Kovarik by a 6-3, 6-2 count, while Powel outplayed Furman's Moore at No. 4, 6-4, 6-2.
