FURMAN WOMEN'S TENNIS DOWNS N.C. STATE 5-1

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- The Furman women's tennis team moved to 11-8 overall when the Lady Paladins defeated N.C. State 5-1 on Saturday at Chapel Hill Tennis Center.

Due to inclement weather, the match did not get underway until 1:00 p.m. and had to be moved from Cary Tennis Center, allowing for the two teams to only get in their singles action.

Mary Kovarik overpowered Kristin Lam, 6-0, 6-1 in flight one action. Mary Neill Hagood defeated Danielle Stadelmann 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, while Natalie The had all three sets go to tie-breakers as she downed Loni Worsley 7-6 (7-0), 6-7 (7-5), 10-6. Shannon Moore and Shellie Cochran both defeated their opponents in straight sets. Furman's only setback came at No. 6, as Carmen Torres squeaked by Lauren Welch 7-5, 6-2.

The Lady Paladins are back in action on Sunday as they travel to Spartanburg to take on Wofford in a key Southern Conference showdown.
