FURMAN WOMEN'S TENNIS TO HOST FALL CLASSIC THIS WEEKEND

GREENVILLE, S.C.- Seven teams ranked in the top 75 at the conclusion of the 2002 season and four individuals ranked in the 2002-03 pre-season top 40 will highlight the field at the 16th annual Furman Fall Classic women's tennis tournament, slated for this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University.

The Classic, which includes players from Furman, Clemson, Iowa, Middle Tennessee State, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Wisconsin, consists of seven singles flights and four doubles flights.

Play on Friday, which will begin at 9:00 a.m., will include two rounds of doubles and one round of singles.

The doubles championships will take place on Saturday, while the singles finals will occur on Sunday.

This year's Fall Classic field could be one of the strongest ever as each school was nationally ranked at the end of the 2002 spring season. Vanderbilt finished the year at No. 7, followed by South Carolina (16th), Wisconsin (27th), Clemson (34th), Furman (46th), Iowa (52nd), and Middle Tennessee State (62nd).
