LADY PALADIN TENNIS FALLS TO FLORIDA STATE, 6-1

AUBURN, ALA.-- The 62nd-ranked Furman women's tennis team dropped to 2-5 on the season when the Lady Paladins lost to 56th-ranked Florida State 6-1 in Auburn, Ala. on Saturday.

The Seminoles began by snagging the doubles point from the Lady Paladins in three closely-contested matches. At No. 1, Anca Dumitrescu and Daniela Gheorghe defeated Natalie The and Caroline Bentley, 8-5. At No. 2, Florida State's Mihaela Muldovan and Christina Denny held off Mary Kovarik and Mary Neill Hagood, 9-7. Florida State completed the doubles sweep with a 9-7 Brooke Cordell-Amberly Tantee victory against Krista Thomson and Lauren Welch.

The Seminoles then won five of six singles matches to take the victory. For the second time in as many days, Furman's lone point came from the No. 6 position, where Bentley edged Tantee, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7).

Furman will not play again until February 27th when the Lady Paladins travel to Fort Collins, Colorado for a showdown against Colorado State.
