74TH-RANKED FURMAN WOMEN'S TENNIS DOWNS EAST TENNESSEE STATE, 7-0

JOHNSON CITY, TENN.-- The 74th-ranked Furman women's tennis team (5-7, 1-0 SoCon) won its 45th consecutive match against a conference opponent this afternoon when the Lady Paladins downed East Tennessee State 7-0 in Johnson City, Tenn.

After sweeping the Bucs in doubles action, the Lady Paladins shut out East Tennessee State in singles play to secure the victory. Five of the six matches were won in straight sets, including victories by Mary Kovarik, Mary Neill Hagood, Natalie The, Shannon Moore, and Shellie Cochran. The lone three-set match of the day came at No. 4, where Caroline Bentley defeated Jewel Aldea 6-1, 0-6, 6-3.

Furman will next travel to Clemson to face the homestanding Tigers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
