19TH-RANKED CLEMSON WOMEN'S TENNIS DOWNS FURMAN, 6-1

CLEMSON, S.C. - The 19th-ranked Clemson women's tennis team defeated No. 74 Furman 6-1 on Saturday afternoon in Clemson. With the win, Clemson improves to 11-2 overall while Furman falls to 5-8.

Clemson swept the doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The Tigers' 31st-ranked duo of Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet defeated Furman's Mary Kovarik and Natalie The 8-3 at flight one. At No. 2, Clemson's Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie, ranked 58th in the country, won an 8-4 decision against Furman's Caroline Bentley and Shannon Moore. The Tigers' Anna Dolinska and Ana Stiglic completed the sweep when they defeated Furman's Mary Neill Hagood and Krista Thomson at flight three, 8-6.

In singles action, Coin, ranked 25th in the nation, defeated Kovarik, 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 position. At No. 2, Lacelarie won a 6-2, 5-7 (11-9) decision against Hagood. Alvarez then defeated The 6-2, 6-0 at flight three, while Jayet was victorious over Bentley 6-3, 6-2 at flight four. The Tigers' final victory came when Ioana Paun won a 6-2, 6-0 decision against Furman's Shellie Cochran at the No. 6 slot.

The Lady Paladins' lone victory came at No. 5, where Furman's Moore defeated Stiglic, 3-6, 6-2 (10-6).

Furman will look to rebound when the Lady Paladins host Southern Conference foe UNC Greensboro on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
