FURMAN WOMEN'S TENNIS TAKES 6-1 VICTORY AGAINST CHATTANOOGA

GREENVILLE, S.C.-- The Furman women's tennis team moved to 13-8 overall and 7-0 in Southern Conference action when the Lady Paladins dropped visiting Chattanooga 6-1 this afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center. The win marks Furman's 51st consecutive victory against a conference foe.

After Chattanooga seized the match's momentum at the beginning of the day by winning the doubles point, Furman rebounded by winning each of its six singles matches in straight sets to clinch the victory. At No. 1, Mary Kovarik downed Charlotte Goude, 6-3, 6-1, while Mary Neill Hagood held off Cynthia Oulevay in flight two action, 6-4, 7-6 (5). After Shannon Moore's 6-0, 6-1 No. 4 singles defeat of Saskia van Velze, Natalie The eased by Catherine Allen 6-2, 6-0 in flight three action. Furman's Caroline Bentley then won her flight five match against Bethany Everett by a 6-1, 6-3 count, while Shellie Cochran defeated Lauren Snipes at No. 6, 6-0, 6-2.

Furman will next face the Georgia Southern Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Friday in Statesboro, Ga.
