AUBURN, ALA. - The No. 29-ranked Auburn women's tennis team (6-1) notched a 6-1 victory against 62nd-ranked Furman (2-4) this afternoon at the Luther Young Tennis Complex in Auburn.
In doubles action, Auburn's tandem of Petra Bercik and Carolina Ramirez, ranked No. 26, earned an 8-4 victory over Furman's Caroline Bentley and Natalie The at the No. 1 position. At No. 3, Sarah Suitor and Ashley Cowart defeated Furman's Krista Thomson and Lauren Welch by a final count of 8-5. Furman did win a match at the No. 2 slot, where Mary Neill Hagood and Mary Kovarik defeated Isabel Rosenbrock and Liz Sauerborn, 8-5.
The Tigers then won five of six singles matches to clinch the victory. Furman's lone point on the day came at the No. 6 position, where Bentley defeated Cowart in a three-set battle, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
Furman will next face the No. 56-rated Florida State Seminoles at 3:00 p.m. EST on Saturday.
