48TH RANKED LADY PALADINS SHUT OUT WESTERN CAROLINA, 7-0

GREENVILLE, S.C.-- The 48th ranked Furman women's tennis team moved to 17-3 overall and 7-0 in conference play when the Lady Paladins defeated Western Carolina 7-0 on Wednesday in the home finale at Mickel Tennis Center. The win extends the Lady Paladins' consecutive conference victory streak to 39 wins.

Furman began the day by dropping only one game in doubles action when the Lady Paladins swept the Catamounts to take the doubles point. At No. 1, Megan Dunigan and Natalie The beat Shelby Fitzpatrick and Shannon Zalinski 8-0 while Caroline Bentley and Mary Kovarik earned an 8-1 victory at No. 2 against Emmy King and Kristin Cotton. Furman's Krista Thomson and Gene Holman completed the sweep with an 8-0 triumph at No. 3 over Kristin Munn and Erin Johnson.

The Lady Paladins then won all six singles matches to complete the victory. Furman's Dunigan, Kovarik, Holman, The, Mary Neill Hagood, and Shellie Cochran were all straight set victors.

Furman will next travel to face Southern Conference foes Georgia Southern (Friday, 2:00 p.m.) and College of Charleston (Saturday, 11:00 a.m.) in what will prove to be two important league matches.
