LADY PALADIN TENNIS FALLS TO NO. 22 SOUTH CAROLINA

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- 22nd-ranked South Carolina (3-0) downed visiting Furman 6-1 Wednesday at the USC Indoor Tennis Center in women's tennis action. The loss drops the Lady Paladins to 2-1 on the season.

After Katarina Markovski and Catherine Brown defeated Furman's Gene Holman and Mary Neill Hagood at No. 3 doubles, South Carolina claimed the doubles point when USC senior Lynn-Yin Tan hit a winning forehand to claim a 9-7 win alongside partner Jodi Kenoyer over Furman's Mary Kovarik and Caroline Bentley at the No. 2 spot.

The Gamecocks then claimed five of six singles matches in straight sets to put the Lady Paladins away.

Furman's lone bright spot on the day came at No. 1 singles, where senior and three-time Southern Conference player of the year Megan Dunigan overpowered South Carolina's Katarina Markovski, 6-3, 6-1.

Furman will look to bounce back when the Lady Paladins host ACC foe North Carolina State on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Mickel Tennis Center.
