CHARLESTON, S.C. - The 49th ranked Furman women's tennis team won its 42nd straight Southern Conference match when the Lady Paladins defeated Georgia Southern 4-0 in a Southern Conference Tournament match on Friday morning at The Citadel's Earle Tennis Center. The win moves Furman into a semifinal showdown against Davidson, who the Lady Paladins knocked off earlier this season, 7-0.
Furman opened up play by taking the doubles point from the Eagles. At No. 1, Southern Conference Player of the Year Megan Dunigan and partner Natalie The overwhelmed Georgia Southern's Amy Bartlett and Callie Ward, 8-1, while Mary Kovarik and Caroline Bentley defeated Charlotte Bruneteaux and Brooke McNamee at the No. 2 spot, 8-1.
Dunigan, Bentley, and Shellie Cochran then earned straight set victories in singles action to clinch the victory for the Lady Paladins.
Furman and Davidson will square off on Saturday at The Citadel for the right to play in the Southern Conference Championship. The match is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m.
