ATLANTA, Ga.-- The 75th-ranked Furman Lady Paladin tennis team (8-2, 0-0 SoCon) upended Georgia State 6-0 on Saturday in Atlanta in a match cut short due to inclement weather.
After earning the initial point of the match by sweeping the Panthers in doubles action, Furman won each of the five singles matches that were completed before rain hit Atlanta. Furman's Megan Dunigan, Mary Kovarik, Natalie The, Caroline Bentley, and Shellie Cochran each earned singles victories, while Mary Neill Hagood was two points away from defeating Georgia State's Maria Soerensen before she was pulled off the court due to the weather.
Furman, which has won six of its last seven matches, will look to continue its winning ways tomorrow when the Lady Paladins face ACC foe and No. 22 ranked Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Furman has already registered two victories against ACC opponents this season with the Lady Paladins' 6-1 win against N.C. State and 5-2 triumph over Clemson.
