48TH RANKED LADY PALADIN TENNIS SOARS PAST GEORGIA SOUTHERN, 6-0

STATESBORO, Ga. -- The 48th ranked Furman women's tennis team won its 40th straight conference dual match on Friday when the Lady Paladins downed Georgia Southern 6-0 at the Hanner Courts in Statesboro. The victory, which moves Furman to 18-3 overall and 8-0 in league play for 2002, clinches at least a share of the Southern Conference regular season title for the Lady Paladins.

With no doubles matches being played due to inclement weather, Furman swept the Eagles in singles action to clinch the victory. Lady Paladins Megan Dunigan, Mary Kovarik, Gene Holman, Mary Neill Hagood, Natalie The, and Caroline Bentley all earned straight-set wins against their respective opponents.

The Lady Paladins will next travel to face the 74th ranked College of Charleston Cougars on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. With a win, Furman will secure the league's regular season title and a No. 1 seed for the Southern Conference Tournament (April 18-21; Charleston, S.C.).
