GREENVILLE, S.C.-- The 61st ranked Furman women's tennis team continued its recent streak of success as the Lady Paladins defeated the Dartmouth Big Green 7-0 this afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center. The victory was the fifth win a row for Furman and pushes the Lady Paladins' record to 13-3 in 2002.

Furman started the day by sweeping Dartmouth in doubles action. At No. 1, Furman's Megan Dunigan and Natalie The defeated Sarita Yardi and Carly Bashleben, 8-2, while Mary Kovarik and Caroline Bentley beat Dartmouth's Arden Fredeking and Lisa Borowsky at No. 2, 8-3. Furman's Gene Holman and Mary Neill Hagood completed the shutout with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 against Jayme Ahmed and Catherine Crandall.

Furman then won each of its singles matches in straight sets to clinch the win. At the No. 1 spot, Dunigan, the Lady Paladins' all-time singles victories record holder, moved to 16-0 on the year with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph against Yardi. At No. 2, Kovarik defeated Bashleben, 6-4, 6-1, while Holman beat Fredeking at No. 3, 6-2, 6-4.

Furman's Hagood then knocked off Ahmed at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1, while The earned a 6-0, 6-2 win against Crandall at No. 5. Bentley was the sixth Lady Paladin victor on the day with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Borowsky at No. 6.

The Lady Paladins' next match will be played within the friendly confines of Mickel Tennis Center on Tuesday against East Tennessee State. The match is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
