FURMAN WOMEN'S TENNIS SWEEPS WOFFORD; GOES UNDEFEATED IN SOUTHERN CONFERENCE

GREENVILLE, S.C.- The Furman women's tennis team claimed their third straight outright Southern Conference regular season championship with a 7-0 sweep of the Wofford Terriers this afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center. The victory marks the sixth consecutive win for the Lady Paladins over Wofford.

Furman (15-8, 9-0 Southern Conference) began the match by shutting out Wofford (9-9, 2-7 Southern Conference) in doubles action. Gene Holman and Natalie The were 8-3 victors against Lauren Marie Whisenhunt and Anna Martin at No. 1, while Megan Dunigan and McCall Holman teamed up to defeat Candy Gore and Wendy Rohr at No. 2, 8-1. The Lady Paladins continued their momentum as Krista Thomson and Emelie Isaksson beat Kristine Banks and Erin Hantske at No. 3, 8-4.

Furman then won all six singles matches to clinch the victory. Dunigan, Holman, The, Isaksson, and Lauren Welch won in straight sets. After splitting the first two sets 6-2, 3-6, Thomson rebounded to win a decisive tiebreaker against Banks, 10-8.

The victory gives Furman its third straight Southern Conference regular season title. The Lady Paladins will enter the conference tournament, scheduled for April 19-22 in Charleston, S.C., as the No. 1 seed.
