Furman Falls 7-0 to Eighth Ranked Arizona State


TEMPE, Ariz. ­ The eighth-ranked Arizona State (9-1, 3-1) womenıs tennis team increased their winning streak to eight with a 7-0 sweep over Furman University at the Whiteman Tennis Center. The Devils remain undefeated at home (7-0), and have swept each opponent at home by a 7-0 mark.

In doubles play, ASU earned its team point by stealing all three matches. No. 33-ranked Adria Engel and Karin Palme teamed up on the No. 1 court for a 9-7 victory over Furmanıs Megan Dunigan and Meredith Moore. Debuting in doubles this season on the No. 3 court, Faye DeVera and freshman Jennifer Baker defeated Krista Thomson and Shellie Cochran, 8-5.

In singles action, ASU failed to drop a single set as it won all six match points in dual play. ASU freshman Cindy Sureephong continued to demonstrate consistency as she defeated Furmanıs Lauren Welch, 6-3, 6-1, on the No. 6 court. Sureephong remains undefeated in dual play with a 9-0 record. No. 45-ranked sophomore Megan Yeats improved her team-leading overall record to 17-4 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Gene Holman on the No. 3 court.
