FURMAN WOMEN'S TENNIS DOMINATES APPALACHIAN STATE; ADVANCES TO SOUTHERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

GREENVILLE, S.C.- The Furman women's team won its Southern Conference record 31st straight league match with a convincing 4-0 sweep of Appalachian State. With the win, the Lady Paladins advance to the Southern Conference championship to face the College of Charleston Cougars.

Furman started the day by taking the doubles point from the Mountaineers. Gene Holman and Natalie The teamed up to beat Tonya Eberhart and Kathryn Brown at the No. 2 slot, 8-2. Krista Thomson and Shellie Cochran clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 against Allison Lane and Donna Attenburger.

The Lady Paladins then won three straight singles matches to seal the victory. Southern Conference Player of the Year Megan Dunigan was a 6-0, 6-0 victor against Tammy Bealieu at No. 1, while Gene Holman won her match at No. 2 singles against Eberhart, 6-1, 6-1. Cochran was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 6 singles against Appalachian State's Brown.

Furman will gun for its fourth straight tournament championship tomorrow at The Citadel's Earle Tennis Center at 11:30 a.m. A win would send the Lady Paladins to its third consecutive NCAA tournament.
