FURMAN WOMEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS APPALACHIAN STATE 6-1, MOVES TO 2-0 IN SOUTHERN CONFERENCE

Greenville, S.C.- The Furman women's tennis team won its 22nd straight Southern Conference dual match as the Lady Paladins defeated Appalachian State 6-1 this afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center.

Lady Paladins Megan Dunigan, Meredith Moore, Gene Holman, Emelie Isaksson, and Natalie The all were victorious in straight-set matches.

In the longest match of the day, Mountaineer Jennifer Fayad registered a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Furman's Krista Thomson for Appalachian State's only win.

In doubles action, Dunigan and Moore defeated Mountaineers Fayad and Tammy Beaulieu, 8-3. Gene Holman and Natalie The, who have won eight of their last nine matches, were 8-3 winners against Allison Lane and Alex Chong. Furman's Thomson and Shellie Cochran pulled out a 9-8 (3) victory to earn the Lady Paladins the doubles sweep.

Furman will next face Western Michigan tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. The match will be played at Mickel Tennis Center.
