Knoxville, Tenn.-- The No. 3 ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers (24-3) ousted the Furman Lady Paladins (18-9) today in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Knoxville, Tenn., 4-0. The win propels the Lady Vols into a second round matchup against Washington State, while the Southern Conference champion Lady Paladins end the season at 18-9.

Tennessee opened the match by sweeping Furman in doubles play. Agnes Wiski and Brooke Cordell shut out Krista Thomson and Shellie Cochran 8-0 at No. 3, while Crystal Cleveland and Alison Ojeda defeated Gene Holman and Natalie The 8-3 at the No. 2 slot.

The Lady Vols then won three straight singles matches to clinch the victory. At No. 3 singles, Tennessee's Vilmarie Castellvi overpowered Holman, 6-0, 6-1, while Wiski beat The at No. 4, 6-1, 6-2. Cordell sealed the win for Tennessee with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Thomson at the No. 6 position.

Dunigan and Moore were all-conference singles and doubles honorees. The Lady Paladins also featured four conference singles flight champions in Dunigan, Moore, The, and Isaksson, and two conference doubles flight winners in Dunigan-Moore and Holman-The.

Furman will lose two players to graduation, as Moore and Isaksson played their final match as Lady Paladins.
