Furman Drops 6-1 Decision to No. 26 Clemson


Clemson, S.C.— The Clemson Tiger women's tennis team defeated the Furman Lady Paladins 6-1 today at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The win drops Furman to 2-2 on the season, while Clemson improves to 3-1.

The sole Lady Paladin point came at No. 3 singles, with Furman's Gene Holman defeating Christina Oldock, 7-5, 6-3.

At No. 3 doubles, Furman's Krista Thomson and Shellie Cochran beat Clemson's Oldock and Laurence Jayet, 8-4. However, the Tigers still won the doubles point, including a Carmina Giraldo and Anna Savitskaya win over Lady Paladins Megan Dunigan and Meredith Moore, 8-2. The Tigers' second doubles victory came with Clemson's Milena Stanoytcheva and Anna Dolinska teaming up to overcome Furman's Holman and Natalie The, 8-6.

The Lady Paladins will be looking to rebound from the Clemson loss on Sunday with matches against Middle Tennessee State and Presbyterian. Furman will open up against Middle Tennessee State at 10 a.m., followed by a match against Presbyterian at 3 p.m.
