FURMAN WOMEN'S TENNIS SIGNS TWO

GREENVILLE Furman University women's tennis head coach Debbie Southern announced the signing of two natioanlly ranked prep stars to national letters-of-intent for the 2000 season on Monday.

McCall Holman, of Shelby, N.C., is the younger sister of current Lady Paladin junior Gene Holman. She is a senior at Shelby High School and is currently ranked 77th in the nation in girls 16 and under.

Shellie Cochran, from Dublin, Ga., was ranked 62nd in the nation last year. She is a senior at Dublin High School and is #1 in her class academically. Cochran's father, Guy, is a 1979 graduate of Furman University.

"I expect both of these players to contribute immediately to our program," said Southern. "They are both quality tennis players and excellent students. They will fit in nicely to our program."

Holman and Cochran join a formidable women's tennis program that has won the Southern Confernece tournament each of the last two seasons.
