DUNIGAN TO REPRESENT SOCON IN NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

GREENVILLE Furman women's tennis standout Megan Dunigan has advanced

to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Summer Circuit national tournament that begins Wednesday in Williamsburg, VA.

Dunigan and Matt Lucas from Appalachian State will represent the Southern Conference when play begins on August 11 on the campus of the College of William and Mary.

Lucas and Dunnigan were the two most successful players in the Southeast region of the ITA Summer Circuit this summer. They were the points leaders in the region based on the quality of their tournament wins during the summer season.

Dunigan, a rising sophomore, was a finalist at the ITA tournaments at Georgia Tech and East Tennessee State and reached the quarterfinals at the UNCG tournament. As a freshman at Furman, Dunnigan was the Southern Conferences Freshman of the Year and the leagues Player of the Year.

Lucas, a rising junior at Appalachian State, won the singles title at the ITA tournament held at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro earlier this summer. He also reached the semifinals at the East Tennessee State tournament, the consolation finals at the Georgia Tech tournament and advanced to the round of 16 at the University of North Carolina tournament. Lucas has been the Mountaineers team MVP in each of his first two seasons at ASU.

The ITA Summer Circuit Nationals brings together the winners from the five different regions across the country. The national winner earns a wildcard berth into the ITA National Clay Court Championships and a spot in U.S. Open qualifying later this month.

Dunigan is a native of Oak Ridge, TN and a graduate of Oak Ridge High School. Lucas graduated from Watauga High School in Boone, NC.
