VANDERBILT TAKES FIVE OF SEVEN SINGLES TITLES AT FALL CLASSIC
GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Commodores of Vanderbilt won five of seven singles titles at the Furman Fall Classic Sunday, after taking all three doubles flights in Saturday's action.
Vanderbilt's Kristy Blumberg defeated Wisconsin's April Gabler 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to win the flight one title, while Sarah Riske took the flight three victory with a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Wisconsin's Shana McElroy. Vandy's Kate Burson won the fourth flight with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over USC's Tamara Sutton, Jenny Miller topped Megan Kearney of Iowa 6-3, 6-4, and Lauren Rose defeated MTSU's Tanja Buccheim 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (4) to round out the Commodore victories.
The flight two singles title was won by South Carolina's Katarina Markovski in a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 decision over Vanderbilt's Annie Plessinger, and Tennessee's Amy Bartlett won the flight seven title with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Middle Tennessee State's Niger Kaur.
