Furman Women's Tennis Picked First In SoCon

GREENVILLE -- The Furman women's tennis team, off to a 3-0 start, is the unanimous favorite in the Southern Conference preseason coaches poll.

The Lady Paladins, who claimed the 1998 Southern Conference Tournament Title after finishing second in the regular season, return four starters from last year's squad, including 1998 Southern Conference freshman-of-the-year Meredith Moore. Moore is currently ranked 28th in the Southeast Region, while top singles player, freshman Megan Dunigan, is ranked 22nd.

"It is quite an honor to be the unanimous pick from the league coaches," said head coach Debbie Southern. "Our goal for the season is to win the Southern Conference and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and this provides us with quite a challenge. The conference will be extremely tough this year and we will have to work very hard if we hope to accomplish our goal."

The Lady Paladins have opened the season with victories over Winthrop, UNC Charlotte, and Georgia State. Furman hosts South Carolina on Saturday, February 13, at 1 p.m.
