 FURMAN WOMEN'S TENNIS SIGNS TWO
GREENVILLE Furman University women's tennis head coach Debbie Southern announced the signing of two prep stars to national letters-of-intent on Monday.
Krista Thomson, of Orchard Park, N.Y., and Natalie The, of Lake Worth, Fla., will join the two-time defending Southern Conference tournament champion Lady Paladin tennis team for the 1999-2000 school year.
Thomson helped guide Orchard Park High School to four division championships as she posted a 102-5 singles record.
The posted a 54-5 career singles record at Atlantic Community High School. She has held a top 20 state ranking for the last four years, along with a national ranking of 149th in singles and 39th in doubles as a senior.
Thomson and The join a formidable women's tennis program that returns five starters from last season's NCAA Tournament squad and welcomes back Emelie Isaksson, the 1998 Southern Conference Tournament MVP, who returns as a sophomore after spending a year in her native Sweden.
