FURMAN MEN DOWN WOFFORD 6-1

GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman men's tennis team downed Wofford 6-1on Wednesday at the Mickel Tennis Center. The win moved the Paladins to 12-11 (8-1 SoCon), while the Terriers fell to 8-11 (1-8 SoCon).

Furman took the doubles portion of the match winning two out of the three matches. At No.1 Furman's Patrick Fillnow and John Chesworth downed Kent Ball and Brett Johnson 8-5, while in the No.3 slot Greg Maarschalk and Ben Pauluhn won over Jason Mengel and Alex Fridzon 8-2. Wofford's doubles victory came at the No. 2 slot where Brandon Smith and Chris Barlow defeated Allen Simmons and Brian Crook.

Furman went on to win five out of the six singles matches in straight sets to secure the victory. Furman senior John Chesworth won his seventh match in a row at No.1 singles downing Kent Ball 6-3, 6-2. Woffords lone point came in the No.5 singles slot where Brandon Smith ousted Brian Crook 7-6, 6-3.

The Paladins take on The Citadel Saturday in their final regular season conference match. Play begins at 1:00.
