FURMAN GETS PAST UNCG, 5-2, IN MENıS TENNIS ACTION


Greensboro, NC ­ Furman got past UNC Greensboro, 5-2, in a very tough Southern Conference match Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Complex.

UNCG started the match off hot, taking the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. At No. 1, Pieter Visser and Julio Moran defeated John Chesworth and Patrick Fillnow, 8-6. The Spartans picked up their key second victory at No. 3 as Chris Magnone and Jason Steinhorn defeated Allen Simmons and Brian Crook, 8-2. Furman picked up their lone doubles win at No. 2 when Will Kieffer and Greg Marschalk defeated Greg Levy and Marc Ladouceur, 8-4.

Furman changed its fortunes in singles action, winning No. 1 through No. 5. The Paladinsı John Chesworth needed three sets to get past Greg Levy, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 1. Patrick Fillnow posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Julio Moran at No. 2. Allen Simmons of Furman also needed three sets to get past Marc Ladouceur at No. 3, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. Once again Furman needed three sets to get a victory as Ben Pauluhn defeated Chris Magnone, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 at No. 4. Brian Crook then got past UNCGıs Daaniel Bustamante, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5. The Spartans got their second point of the day as Pieter Visser picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kevin Lackey at No. 6.

Furman will travel to take on Elon Sunday at 1 pm.
