FURMAN SWEEPS APPALACHIAN STATE 7-0

GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman men's tennis team took on Appalachian State on Wednesday at the Mickel Tennis Center. In their second conference match of the year, the Paladins shut out the Mountaineers 7-0. With the win Furman improved to 6-9, 2-0 in the Southern Conference and Appalachian State fell to 7-5, 3-2.

Furman took the doubles portion of the match sweeping all three matches. In a tight match at No.1 doubles, John Chesworth and Patrick Fillnow battled Dimitar Dimitrov and Alex Probst to a tiebreaker before coming away with the win 9-8.

Furman went on to win all six singles matches securing the shut out. Furman took straight set matches in flights one, three, and six, and in flight two Patrick Fillnow extended his win streak to six matches. In flight four Ben Pauluhn won in a tight three set match against Andrew Waters 6-0,3-6,6-2 and Brian Crook battled back from a first set loss to take the No.5 singles match over Andrew Taylor 3-6,7-5,6-2.

The Paladins take on College of Charleston in Greenville at 1:30 Saturday, then travel to Statesboro, GA for a match against Georgia Southern on Sunday.
