GREENVILLE, SC -- After starting the season with eight away matches, the Furman men's tennis team made up for their time away from home with three matches on Saturday against Gardner-Webb, Samford, and Erskine. Furman won all three matches, improving their record to 4-7 on the year.

The Paladins began the day with a 7-0 shutout over Gardner-Webb. Furman easily won all three doubles matches, gaining the early one point advantage. The Paladins dominated singles play, winning all six singles matches to capture the victory.

In afternoon action Furman pulled off a 5-2 victory over the Bulldogs of Samford. The Paladins again took the early one point lead, winning all three doubles matches. At No.1 singles Furman's John Chesworth gained an early victory when Manuel Miletic retired after falling down 6-1, 3-0 and Patrick Fillnow easily downed the Bulldogs James Bryce 6-4, 6-0 in No.2 action, giving Furman a 3-0 advantage. Samford pulled a little closer when Allen Simmons dropped a tough match to Stuart Misner 6-3, 7-5 at No.3 and in the No.4 slot Ben Pauluhn fell to Rob Nunnery 6-1, 6-3. Furman's Brian Crook sealed the match beating Johnny Griffee 6-2, 7-5 in No.5 singles action. And in the last match Furman's Kevin Lackey battled hard to down Brad Weaver 7-5, 7-6(2).

In the night match Furman dominted play, winning 7-0 over the Flying Fleet of Erskine. The match began with singles action and Furman sealed the victory winning all six singles matches. In doubles action Furman dropped one match, but picked up victories from Will Kieffer and Brian Crook at No. 1 and Patrick Fillnow and Devin Kahan at No.3 to secure the shutout.

The Furman men return to action on Wednesday when they take on Wake Forest at the Mickel Tennis Center. Play begins at 2:30.
