TALLAHASSEE, FL -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team earned improved to 7-1, defeating Furman 5-2 Sunday afternoon in a neutral-site meeting at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The Paladins won the doubles point for the second straight match but recorded only one singles victory on the day, falling to 0-6 on the year.
The Paladins claimed doubles wins at No. 1 and No. 2 for the first point of the day. John Chesworth and Patrick Fillnow defeated their second straight ranked opponent when they downed No.41 Anthony Jackson and Brian Hung 9-7 in the No. 1 slot. Furman's Brian Crook and Allen Simmons picked up the win at No. 2 doubles over Ryan Heller and Michael Ruben 8-6.
Furman's singles woes continued, dropping five of six singles matches in straight sets. The Paladins lone victory came when Patrick Fillnow defeated Anthony Jackson 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles slot.
Furman travels to Hanover, NH on Thursday to take on The Big Green of Dartmouth. Match is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
