FURMAN BATTLES HARD, FALLS TO NO.23 RANKED GEORGIA 7-0

ATHENS, GA -- The No. 14 Georgia men's tennis team earned a 7-0 win against Furman at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex Friday afternoon in Athens. The Bulldogs, who improved to 4-1, won all three doubles matches and were victorious in all six singles matches for their first shutout of the year. Furman fell to 0-4 with the loss.

Georgia got on the board first by sweeping the three doubles matches. At No. 2, Matias Ormaza and Matic Omerzel were the first to finish with an 8-2 win against Allen Simmons and Greg Maarschalk. The team of Strahinja Bobusic and Jason Varela clinched the point with an 8-5 victory against Scott Kahler and Kevin Lackey at No. 3. The fifth-ranked tandem of Bo Hodge and John Isner completed the sweep with an 8-3 win in the top doubles match against Patrick Fillnow and Brian Crook.

In singles action Furman's Patrick Fillnow, who was filling in for injured John Chesworth at No.1 singles, took the sixth ranked player in the nation, Bo Hodge to a third set before losing 6-2, 6-7, 6-4. Allen Simmons also lost a close match at No. 2 singles, falling to No. 54 Matias Ormaza 6-4,6-4. In another great match, Furman's Brain Crook lost in three sets to Matic Omerzel 6-3,4-6,6-3. Georgia took the other three singles matches in straight sets.

The Furman men's tennis team returns to action on February 28, when they travel to Tallahassee to take on No. 32 Florida State. Match begins at 3:00.
