FURMAN MEN'S TENNIS DROPS 5-2 DECISION TO 35th-RANKED GEORGIA TECH

ATLANTA, GA..--- On the strength of three third set singles victories, the Georgia Tech men's tennis team claimed a 5-2 win over Furman on Monday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center in Atlanta, Ga.

Furman took the early lead as the Paladins claimed two out of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Furman earned victories at No. 1 doubles as Patrick Fillnow and James Cameron won 8-6 and at No. 3 doubles where Chris Henderson and Allen Simmons claimed a 9-8 victory.

Georgia Tech was able to rally in singles play, winning five of the six matches, including three in the third set. Furman's lone singles victory came at No. 2 singles as Patrick Fillow defeated Scott Schnugg 6-3, 7-6.

With the score tied at 2-2, Georgia Tech's Joao Menano gave the Jackets a 3-2 lead in the match with his dramatic win at No. 3 over Chris Henderson. Menano won the first set by a 6-4 score before dropping the second by the same 6-4 score. Menano then rallied from 5-4 down in the third to win the match 7-5. Fabio Campos clinched the match for Tech, as he picked up a victory over Allen Simmons at No. 5. After winning the first set with ease by a 6-2 score, Campos then dropped the second set 6-4. He rallied to win the third set by a 6-2 count. Jacket rookie Marko Rajevac also needed three sets to defeat Furman's Ryan McCarthy. McCarthy won the first set by a 7-6 score, before Rajevac won the next two by scores of 6-4 and 7-5.

Furman falls to 3-4 on the season and will take on Samford on Tuesday afternoon.
