28TH-RANKED VANDERBILT SHUTS OUT FURMAN MEN'S TENNIS, 7-0

NASHVILLE, TENN.-- The 75th-ranked Furman men's tennis team (3-2) was stopped shy of winning its fourth straight match when the 28th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores shut out the Paladins 7-0 this afternoon in Nashville.

The Commodores started the day by sweeping the Paladins in doubles action. At No. 1, Vanderbilt's 27th-ranked duo of Bobby Reynolds and Lewis Smith held off James Cameron and Patrick Fillnow, 8-5. While Scott Brown and Chad Harris handed Andrew Rogers and Dasef Weems an 8-4 defeat at No. 2, Zach Dailey and Jens Pilgram-Larsen beat Chris Henderson and Allen Simmons at No. 3, 8-2.

Vanderbilt then won all six singles matches to finish off the Paladins. The lone three-set match of the day came at No. 4, where Dailey overpowered Rogers in the third set to claim a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 victory. Perhaps the most competitive match occurred at the No. 1 position, where Reynolds, who is ranked No. 8 in the country, needed two tiebreaks to fend off Cameron, 7-6, 7-6.

Furman will look to rebound when it travels to Columbia to face in-state rival South Carolina on February 23 at 10:00 a.m.
