FURMAN MEN'S TENNIS DROPS 4-1 DECISION TO EAST TENNESSEE STATE IN SOUTHERN CONFERENCE SEMIFINAL

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The second-seeded East Tennessee State Bucs defeated arch-rival Furman 4-1 in the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Championships semifinal at The Citadel's Donald C. Bunch Courts on Friday.

East Tennessee State University pulled out in front early by winning the doubles point. At No. 1, East Tennessee State's Marcos Pavlovich and Alejandro Salazar defeated Patrick Fillnow and James Cameron, 8-5, while Moises Serrano and Diego Iglesias topped Furman’s Andrew Rogers and Ben Pauluhn at No. 2, 8-3. In flight three action, Furman's Chris Henderson and Allen Simmons beat Fernando Fiuri and Federico Ochoa by an 8-6 count.

East Tennessee State then closed out the Paladins by winning three of four singles matches. At No. 1, Pavlovich defeated Furman's Cameron, 6-3, 6-2, while Fiuri handed Fillnow a 6-4, 6-1 loss at the No. 4 position. After Furman's Simmons overpowered Serrano at No. 5, 6-2, 6-2, East Tennessee State's Salazar clinched the Buc victory with a 6-3, 7-6 (6) flight two victory over Henderson.

Furman ends the 2003 campaign with a 14-12 overall mark.
