FURMAN MEN'S TENNIS EARNS SEMIFINAL BERTH IN SOCON TOURNAMENT WITH 4-1 WIN AGAINST CHATTANOOGA

CHARLESTON, S.C.-- The Furman men's tennis team advanced to the Southern Conference tournament semifinals when the Paladins downed Chattanooga 4-1 in Charleston, S.C. on Thursday.

Furman began by taking doubles victories at Nos. 2 and 3 to clinch the doubles point. At No. 2, Andrew Rogers and Ben Pauluhn defeated Kyle True and Dustin Kase by an 8-6 count, while Chris Henderson and Allen Simmons handed Tim Kutschera and John Hangstefer an 8-3 loss at No. 3.

Furman's Henderson, Patrick Fillnow, and Simmons then earned straight-set singles victories at the Nos. 2, 3, and 5 slots, respectively, to clinch the Paladin triumph.

Furman will look to avenge a mid-season 4-3 defeat when the Paladins face the East Tennessee Bucs in the tournament semifinals on Friday at The Citadel's Earle Tennis Center. The match is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
