GREENVILLE, S.C.-- The 75th ranked Furman men's tennis team moved to 2-1 on the year when the Paladins defeated Emory and Elon on Saturday at Mickel Tennis Center during the 2003 Furman Shootout.

Furman opened up the day by handing the Emory Eagles a 6-1 defeat. After the Paladins swept the Eagles in doubles action to take the match's opening point, Furman's James Cameron, Patrick Fillnow, Chris Henderson, Andrew Rogers, and Allen Simmons won their singles contests to secure the victory.

Furman then shut out the Elon Phoenix 6-0 to round out the Paladins' action for the day. Furman began by taking two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Cameron, Henderson, Rogers, Simmons, and Ryan McCarthy then won their singles battles to clinch the victory against the Phoenix.

In other action on the day, Elon defeated the Erskine Flying Fleet 7-0 during the morning session. Emory then defeated Erskine in an afternoon match, 5-0.

Furman will next travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to face the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders on February 14th at 3:00 p.m. EST.
