FURMAN MEN'S TENNIS PLAYERS RECORD KEY VICTORIES AT ITA ALL-AMERICAN PRE-QUALIFIER

CHATTANOOGA, TENN.-- The Furman men's tennis team had several players register important wins this weekend at the ITA All-American Pre-Qualifier in Chattanooga, Tenn. The tournament, which featured six Paladin singles players and three Furman doubles tandems, determines who can participate in the All-American qualifier being held this week.

Furman was led by a strong performance from the No. 41 ranked doubles duo of James Cameron and Patrick Fillnow. The tandem recorded a 3-0 mark this weekend, including an 8-4 victory against Middle Tennessee State's Brandon Allen and Greg Pollack, an 8-2 win against North Carolina's Ben Aiken and Andy Metzler, and a 9-8 triumph against Arizona's Tom Lloyd and Paul Warkertin. Although this performance did earn Fillnow and Cameron a spot in the All-American qualifier, the tandem will not participate due to classroom requirements.

Cameron also enjoyed a successful weekend in the singles draw. In the first round, Cameron beat Western Michigan's Ryan Maarschalk 6-4, 7-6. Cameron followed that win up with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph against Michigan State's Andy Formanczyk in the second round, but then had his run come to an end with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Southern California's Johan Berg.

Furman's Chris Henderson also turned in a strong showing for the Paladins in the singles draw. After defeating Colorado's Justin Hunter 6-2, 6-0 in the first round, Henderson recorded a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Chattanooga's Derek Haybittel in the second round. Henderson then dropped a 7-6, 6-2 decision to Winthrop's Clayton Almeida in the third round.

The Paladins will continue their fall tournament season when they head to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational this weekend.
